RHS Garden Rosemoor

Map Location

RHS Garden Rosemoor is a stunning 65-acre garden located in the Torridge Valley near Great Torrington, Devon. Managed by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS), the garden is a year-round destination for those who appreciate beautiful landscapes, rich plant collections, and serene outdoor spaces.

History of RHS Garden Rosemoor

The roots of Rosemoor trace back to 1959 when Lady Anne Berry inherited the estate from her mother. Over the next 30 years, Lady Anne transformed Rosemoor from a neglected woodland into a beautiful private garden, drawing on her travels and passion for horticulture. Inspired by the plant diversity she encountered in other gardens and botanical collections around the world, she introduced a wide range of species and created diverse plantings throughout the estate.

In 1988, Lady Anne Berry gifted the garden and 8 acres of her land to the Royal Horticultural Society. Following this generous donation, the RHS expanded the garden significantly, adding features like the Formal Garden, Fruit and Vegetable Garden, and a new visitor center. The collaboration between Lady Anne’s vision and the expertise of the RHS has made Rosemoor a horticultural gem, blending formal and informal plantings that attract visitors from near and far.

Today, Rosemoor continues to grow, offering a blend of historic plantings and modern garden design, making it a living tribute to Lady Anne’s original passion and the RHS’s dedication to gardening.
